Year 9 Physical Education

In Health and Physical Education, the focus is on the well-being of the students themselves, of other people, and of society through learning in health-related and movement contexts. 

Through learning and by accepting challenges in health related and movement contexts, students reflect on the nature of well-being and how to promote it. As they develop resilience and a sense of personal and social responsibility, they are increasingly able to take responsibility for themselves and contribute to the wellbeing of those around them, of their communities, of their environments (including natural environments), and of the wider society. Health and Physical Education makes a significant contribution to the well-being of students beyond the classroom. 

We cover a range of topics across the two years of this compulsory course (Year 9 and 10) that are both practical and theory based.

The focus of this course is to educate you in the areas of Physical Education and Health & well-being. In Physical Education, you will have the opportunity to participate in a range of physical activities. Equally important, you will learn to demonstrate essential social life skills such as teamwork, building relationships, fair play, self-management, co-operation and responsibility. 

Assessments takes place at the end of a range of units of work throughout the year, to assist with your understanding of your progress of your individual physical skills, self-management, teamwork, interpersonal skills, understanding and knowledge in Physical Education.

NCEA Levels 1, 2 & 3 courses will be made up of a selection of the stated standards. This will happen at the beginning of the year with the assigned teacher.
