Option Description

This course is intended to suit students who want to improve their confidence in communication and build basic English skills of oral, written, and visual communication. 

The main area of study: 

• Developing reading skills • Improving technical aspects of written expression • Improving communication through language • Increasing information literacy and analytical thinking skills.

Students have the opportunity to meet NCEA level 2 through Unit Standards. 

Note that this course will NOT offer a University Pathway with NCEA UE Literacy Achievement Standards.

Pathway

This is a Year 12 English Non-Fiction course aimed to equip students with the critical skills necessary for engaging with real-world information and ideas. Students develop their analytical thinking, comprehension, and communication skills by studying non-fiction texts such as business correspondence, essays, articles, speeches, and documentaries. They learn to critically assess sources, discern biases, and evaluate arguments, enhancing their media literacy and ability to navigate an information-rich society. Our Non-Fiction course is predominantly Unit Standards-based and is designed to align well with vocational pathways.
