It is recommended students take both Practical Science or Pūhoro Science in addition to Science Academy to ensure they have the broad science base needed to be successful at level 2 and beyond. The course is made up of two semesters: Semester A - Medical Science and Semester B - Engineering Science

Option Overview

Semester A
Medical Science
Physical Fitness and Nutrition (exploring and investigating the cardiovascular and digestive systems)
Disease - Genetic and Infectious Disease

Semester B
Engineering Science
Structural Engineering (Investigating what makes structures strong - forces, torque, stress and strain)
Electrical Engineering (Creating and coding circuits)
Mechanical Engineering (Machines)

Assessment Information

Assessment will not be a huge focus of this course as we want to maximise the learning time. However, we intend on assessing two level 2 standards from the following selection:
Biology investigation, Application of Physics to a context, Electrical Circuits.
This will provide 7 to 9 level 2 credits and will allow you more time in your level 2 courses the following year to focus on external assessment preparation and get a head start on Level 3 learning.

Disclaimer

NCEA Levels 1, 2 & 3 courses will be made up of a selection of the stated standards. This will happen at the beginning of the year with the assigned teacher.
